Day Zero – SDG Bergen 2023 “Decolonising universities and Epistemologies”
8 February 2023 @ 11:00 - 12:30 CETFree
Day Zero (8 February 2023) marks the first day of the SDG Bergen Conference. The day offers free, hybrid (in-person and digital) opportunities for workshops, debates, exhibitions related to the SDGs. The conference is running under the theme “A just transformation to a sustainable future” and GRIP will be represented by Wesley Maraire who will join the panel on Decolonising Universities and Epistemologies.
Decolonising epistemologies as a precondition for the realisation of the SDGs is a central topic for the UNESCO report Knowledge-Driven Action: Transforming higher education for global sustainability (see in particular Part 3: ‘Ways of knowing’). The research group at UiB’s Department of Government ‘Globalisation and development’ with its project on ‘Decolonising Epistemologies’ invites you to take part in the discussion on how decolonisation of epistemologies may be a global precondition for realising the SDGs.
Some of the areas to be covered include: what changes of disciplines and universities do we need, and how can “lost knowledge” in the Global South be regained for new ideas about sustainable solutions the hegemonic epistemologies have suppressed?
In addition to speakers from UiB, there will be presentations from The University of the Western Cape and from Makerere University.
Registration is open and you can register here!
