The annual SDG Conference in Bergen, organized by the University of Bergen, will take place between the 7th and 9th of February. The theme for this year’s conference is The role of universities in transformative change. This digital conference brings together participants from around the world and will include speakers from academia, government, innovation hubs, industry, and more. GRIP is hosting a session on one of the conference days.

Most of the Sustainable Development Goals from Agenda 2023 will not be implemented globally. The climate and nature crises indicate a code red for humanity. Wars and rising geopolitical tension create new setbacks. There is a huge gap between needed action and the current mobilisation of political leadership, knowledge, resources and technology. How can universities and the academic profession engage in new and more radical ways?

Wednesday 7th of February

The Academic Festival “Day Zero” marks the beginning of the SDG Conference. It is free, all events are digital or hybrid. Day Zero is designed to be an open space to communicate across disciplines, topics, and goals and to learn from one another in critical applications of the SDGs and their targets and indicators. There is a multitude of topics and formats. Day Zero has the feeling of a festival where you are welcome to participate in the discussion or just listen.

Day Zero starts with an Opening Plenary Session, followed by three waves of 90-minute workshop sessions. Full overview of Day Zero sessions are available here: Day Zero 2024 programme | SDG Conference in Bergen | UiB

GRIP will host two sessions on Day Zero – Tackling the Rise of Illiberalism and Navigating the Challenges and Embracing Opportunities in Green Transition Finance.
