Ciencia de la sostenibilidad, pobreza y desarrollo en la Argentina del Siglo XXI

Today we are at a crossroads. A decision that will decisively condition the future of humanity must be made: either we continue in a direction that leads to the exclusion of a large proportion of the population and the enrichment of very few individuals in the context of an increasing degradation of the environment and global warming; or we face the challenges involved in changing trajectories, deepening participatory democracy and promoting sustainable development.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has exacerbated the complexity of the problems examined in the book and crudely shows that it is not possible to follow the current path without suffering very serious consequences in our present and future.

An explicit purpose of this book is to build bridges that link scientific knowledge with transformative policies toward social, economic, and environmental sustainability, thus facilitating the mentioned change of direction. This kind of intellectual construction is essential when analysing poverty, inequality, development and sustainability within the context of urgency and complexity. Not an easy task, but a necessary one. Throughout the book, readers will be able to appreciate the magnitude of the bridge to be built, as well as the challenges of using a new type of science whose central axis is to contribute to the transition towards sustainability by providing the necessary knowledge to address some of the major problems of our time.
